诸沙弥以善巧度波斯匿王
昔日，佛刚成道时，教化天下众生，众生无不为之摄受，唯舍卫国的波斯匿王对于佛法还没有真正信解。
那时佛住止的精舍与波斯匿王的园林楼观相邻，皆临近江边。精舍中有沙弥三百余位，每天都为奉事佛、法、僧而精勤工作。一日，维那法师派遣沙弥们持水瓶到江边取水，沙弥们一到江边，便开始嬉戏。
此时，波斯匿王与夫人正坐在楼台上，远远看见沙弥们在江边游戏的场景，就对夫人说：「我之所以不相信佛，就是因为这个缘故！他们这些人自称清净，没有五蕴烦恼，但是妳看他们今日如此地游戏，与我等并没有什么差别，所以，佛说的话，怎么能相信？」
夫人回答：「就如同大海中，有龙有蛇，大乘佛法也如此。同样在修行，有人得证道果，有人尚未得道，不可一概而论。」话还没有说完，沙弥们已各自取水毕，施展神足通，挑着三百瓶水飞腾于空中，回至精舍。此时，夫人向波斯匿王说道：「大王认为他们烦恼未漏尽，他们今现神足通，您认为如何呢？」波斯匿王见此情景，心大欢喜，立刻下楼，与群臣百官一起前往佛处，至诚顶礼佛，忏悔先前不敬之过失，并至心皈依三宝。
佛于是为波斯匿王等众宣说佛法，波斯匿王与夫人，以及与会一切大众闻法，皆发起无上菩提心。

Novice Monks Skillfully Transform King Prasenajit
In former times, when the Buddha had just attained enlightenment, he taught and transformed beings throughout the world, and all were embraced by his influence. Only King Prasenajit of Śrāvastī had not yet truly developed faith and understanding in the Buddha-Dharma.
At that time, the monastery where the Buddha resided was adjacent to the king’s garden pavilions, both located by the river. There were more than three hundred novice monks in the monastery, who diligently served the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Saṅgha every day. One day, the Vinaya master sent the novices to fetch water from the river with bottles. As soon as they arrived, they began to play.
At that moment, King Prasenajit and his queen were seated in a pavilion. Seeing the novices playing by the river, the king said to the queen, “The reason I do not believe in the Buddha is precisely this. They claim to be pure and free from the afflictions of the five aggregates, yet look at how they are playing today. They are no different from us. How can the Buddha’s words be trusted?”
The queen replied, “Just as in the great ocean there are both dragons and serpents, so it is with the Mahāyāna Dharma. Among those who practice, some attain realization while others have not yet done so. One cannot make a general judgment.” Before she had finished speaking, the novices had already filled their bottles. They then displayed supernatural powers, carrying three hundred bottles of water as they flew through the air back to the monastery. The queen then said, “Your Majesty thought they had not exhausted their afflictions. Now that they display such powers, what do you think?” Seeing this, the king was greatly delighted. He immediately descended from the pavilion and, together with his ministers, went to the Buddha. He sincerely bowed, repented his previous disrespect, and wholeheartedly took refuge in the Three Jewels.
The Buddha then expounded the Dharma to King Prasenajit and the assembly. Upon hearing the teaching, the king, the queen, and all those present gave rise to the supreme aspiration for enlightenment.
