Sitting Meditation
From Local Awareness to Holistic Wisdom
The direction of practice is to allow focused, localized awareness to mature into a comprehensive and wise understanding of experience as a whole.
1. Local Awareness as Entry
Begin with breath or bodily sensation.
Localized focus is easier to stabilize.
Stability allows expansion.
2. Expansion as Process
Awareness does not remain confined.
It gradually encompasses the whole field.
This widening occurs naturally.
3. Relational Observation
Body, feeling, mind, and environment interact.
Nothing exists in isolation.
Wisdom arises from seeing relationships.
4. Holistic Observation as Turning Point
Experience is seen as an integrated whole.
Fragmentation diminishes.
Understanding deepens.
5. Conditional Perspective as Deepening
Phenomena arise through conditions.
They cease through conditions.
Grasping loosens accordingly.
6. Insight into Non-Self as Core
No fixed self is found in the whole.
The sense of “I” weakens naturally.
Freedom begins to appear.
7. Compassion as Natural Outcome
Understanding gives rise to tolerance.
Compassion does not need to be forced.
It follows wisdom naturally.
8. Embodiment in Life as Completion
Wisdom extends beyond sitting.
It shapes choices and actions.
Practice becomes integrated.
Summary
The movement from localized awareness to holistic wisdom reflects the natural maturation of awareness, culminating in freedom expressed through everyday life.
